kyoto
monotype
Kyoto is a series of monotypes with applied gold leaf, created after travel to Kyoto, Japan, which was inspired by the twenty-six statutes of "Praying Bodhisattva (Buddhist Saint) on Clouds", the sculptures from the Byodoin Temple Museum. The use of red pigment, underneath gold leaf, was a technique employed in Medieval and Renaissance European religious icon painting. These prints represent blending of eastern and western ideals in art and religion.
